Margo Shea is a Mellon Fellow at the Collaborative for Southern Appalachian and Place-Based Studies at Sewanee- University of the South. She is on leave from Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts, where she is Assistant Professor of Public History, teaching and graduate courses in public history, local history and heritage, museums and urban history as well as a slate of courses in the general education curriculum.

Margo brings experience and expertise in community economic development, service-learning and campus-community partnership building to the Collaborative. At Sewanee, she is teaching a variety of community-based research courses on place and memory and is working on a project titled "Around Here: The Places that Shape Us," a crowd-sourced, searchable, accessible catalogue of places – large and small, private and public, personal and shared -- that matter to people who live, work and recreate on and around the South Cumberland plateau, locally referred to simply as “the mountain,” in south-central Tennessee.
